The 2010 50 States in 50 Days tour is fast approaching. Today, I finished the new website that is dedicated to the tour and the Orange Duffel Bag Foundation. Please check it out.
My sister, Echo Montgomery Garrett co-wrote an amazing book with Sam Bracken called My Orange Duffel Bag-A Journey to Radical Change. I’m partnering with them on this tour. You can read the “mission statement” at www.the50statesin50daystour.com.
I’m super-fired up about the website. I built it myself, so am pretty proud of it. Let me know what you think?
Jill Jackson and I will be making our way to SXSW from California via Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas. I come from a long line of Texans, so it will be good to go back and smell the Texas air. Reminds me of summers with my grandparents in Belton, Texas. Ok, so on March 12th we do a house concert in Dallas, Texas , and on the 13th we play in Ft. Worth Attend This Event.
We then head to SXSW and play a free show at Maria’s Taco Xpress on Wednesday, March 17th at 5pm! Tell all the folks you know!!

I HAVE to record another cd this year. I’ve been writing a bit with old pals like Jeff Russo from the band Tonic, and Bob Theile Jr……..both in Los Angeles, and have been trying to find some quiet afternoons where I can sit at the piano and let my mind roam free. Jill Jackson and I even started a song the other night.
Part of writing for me is getting into the right headspace. When I was alone it was very easy, but now that i’m a dad……well, there are many distractions……lovely distractions, but sometimes it is hard to find that headspace.
I use music to help me immerse into that headspace. Here are some of my choices lately.
1) “Doesn’t Have to be this Way” Alison Krauss and Union Station
2) “Landed” Ben Folds
3) “Late” Ben Folds
4) “Silver Palomino” Bruce Springsteen
5) “Trouble” Coldplay
6) “Never Say Never” The Fray
7) “Eight Feet Tall” Gabriel Mann
8) “The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress” Jimmy Webb
9) “I Miss Missing You” The Rescues
10) “Elizabeth, you were born to play that part” Ryan Adams
What are the songs that put you in that creative headspace? Comment below…….

Last night I had a meeting with Sean Snook. We caught up on things, and it was great to spend some time with him. We talked alot about the 50 States in 50 Days tour. I showed him the blog I put up a couple of days ago with this past year’s tour “In Pictures.” We laughed, strategized, and generally had a great time thinking about all the good memories that we have from the tour, and all the characters and wonderful people we met along the way.
The tour is not easy, but it is a worth endeavor. It is difficult mentally and physically, but on the last night of the tour as we sat on the hotel patio in Honolulu…..we both agreed that we could do another 50 nights easy……just keep going.
I believe most times our faults are mental, and if you can get past the mental part……….you can physically do anything you set your mind to.
