What is a house concert? How to book one.

A house concert in Little Rock, Arkansas

A house concert is just as it sounds-a concert in your home. I’ve been doing house concerts for the past 9 years all over the world. I’ve done them as far away as the Outback of Australia……where actually drove 7 hours down a dirt rode at one point!

     Questions you may have:

Does it have to be held in a house? No, they can be held in a pub, in an art gallery, or a village hall. Any suitable space will work. I’ve done them on flatbed trailers in a driveway……could be anywhere.

How many people need to attend to make it worth your while? Everything is negotiable, and there are many ways to skin a cat. I’ve played for as few as 40, and as many as 200 at a house concert. Depends on the situation.

There are many people out there now who “professionally” put on house concerts and have their own “music series”……..i’ve tended to stay away from them, and prefer to play shows for friends/fans who have never done them before. I prefer it that way, and LOVE to show up, and have a great time, and meet new people. Some of the best shows i’ve ever had were house concerts.

One of my favorite things to do is to have friends over……….have some drinks, and get the ipods out, and take turns playing dj. Think of a house concert as me being the “human ipod”, and you sharing the music with your friends and family! Hopefully, we can have some laughs, too. Those are very important.

To book me for a house concert…….all you have to do it get in touch! I’m booking for 2009 and 2010. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are. I will travel. Also, keep in mind that i’m doing another 50 States in 50 Days tour in the fall of 2009, so will need shows in every state. If you want to host a house concert in your state, then please email me and let’s talk?

      It is simple.

I made this video in 2006 of highlights from the year’s house concerts….bear in mind it was shot on my mobile phone, but it should give you a good feel for things:

This video was shot this past your on the 50 States in 50 Days tour. We had driven 17 hours and took turns sleeping while driving, AND had a blowout, so we are a little toasty, but the people make the house concert, and they were great in Scottsdale, Arizona:

post with friends and help spread the word. Someone might want to co-host a house concert with you? Thank for reading!

Check out this earlier blog to see more house concert videos from the 2008 50 States in 50 Days tour that i completed with Scottish singer-songwriter Jill Jackson. We drove 21,000 miles in my truck, and videoblogged along the way.
