My Top 10 Daytime Driving Songs.

by Kevin on June 2, 2010

The Valley of Monuments.

Ok, so my friend Marc Marnie, a brilliant photographer from Edinburgh, suggested that I write a post on my top 10 daytime driving songs. He said that he had just downloaded the tunes that I mentioned in my “Top 10 nighttime driving songs” post. I decided to take up the challenge. I perused my Itunes library, and came up with the following in no particular order.
Think driving down the freeway, sun out, shades on, blood pumping, caffeine jumping through the veins……..summertime driving songs. These are mine……if I were exhausted on the 50 States in 50 Days tour.…..I might throw these on.

  1. “Come A Long Way” by Michelle Shocked-this song totally reminds me of LA. I lived in Hollywood for five years, and this song propelled me down the highway many a day.
  2. “Back to You” by Bryan Adams-I love his stuff. I don’t care if you think it ruins my street cred. I met him when I was 15 years old backstage on the Cuts Like a Knife tour, and he was super-cool. I’ve been a loyal fans ever since…..even though he won’t accept my friendship on facebook!!!
  3. “Summer of ’69″ by Bryan Adams-Totally reminds me of riding down the road with the windows down and my high school girlfriend sitting right next to me.
  4. “Hard Candy” by Counting Crows-simply blood pumping. Reminds of driving to Lubbock with Robert Reynolds…….the trip we wrote “Cherokee City” on as we rolled toward Texas.
  5. “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure-I worked at Cat’s Records on West End in Nashville. THE coolest record store at the time. We sold the heck out of their records. I love this song. Makes me feel good.
  6. “The Island Song by Henry and the Seahawks-I found Henry in Nashville. I love his voice, his music, his painted toenails, and his vibe. I took this song to Key West on a few trips, and now it reminds me of being out on the water……….chillin’…….listening to good music.
  7. “Road and the Sky” by Jackson Browne-I had to get a Jackson Browne song in here.
  8. “Tailspin” by The Jayhawks-Love this song. I covered it a few years ago on a Roadtrippers tour.
  9. “Shine Your Light” by The Mavericks-This was my choice for the single off the last Mavericks record, but of course no one listened. I love it. Totally makes me feel good.
  10. “Wiggly Fingers” by Patty Griffin-This was a wild card, but happened to listen to it as I was skimming through Itunes. Totally rocks.

What are your Top 10 Daytime driving songs? Put them in the comments below. I’m curious. Plus, I need some new music!

Well I’ve done the night driving songs so here are my daylight driving songs. Be warned, these are songs for driving very fast along winding English country roads in a convertible with the roof down on a beautiful summers morning. I won’t be responsible for any speeding tickets. However, play LOUD!

Matt Munro – On Days Like These. (The Theme To The Italian Job) Must be played first to get you in the mood. All British men dream of being that guy in that car in the title sequence to that film. Right up to the moment he crashes into the digger obviously.

Del Amitri – Start With Me

The Hives – Hate To Say I Told You So.

The Motors – Dancing The Night Away

The Music – Breakin’

The Power Station – Get It On

Motorhead – Ace Of Spades (because we all don’t wanna live for ever!)

And to finish with a bit of Bond. Because again all British men want to be James/Sean in that silver Aston Martin. But not just any bit of Bond.

The Propellerheads – OHMSS
This isn’t just a cover version, its a 9:26 symphony of Bond with a bass line to destroy your speakers and one of the best key changes ever. As I mentioned to be played very loud!

Hope you like them.
