Driving to Scotland……….thinking………

by Kevin on December 28, 2009

We are driving to Scotland for the Scottish leg of the UK tour……well, Dave is driving at the moment…….i’ve just woken from a nap. Thanksfully, Dave spent 20 years on the road with U2 as their lead truck driver/logistics manager……at one point having 80 trucks, 3 ships, and two planes that he was in charge of. So, I can truly relax when he takes the wheel. I’m not sure he can say the same! Ha!
Driving into Bristol last night for rehearsals I saw the most mysterious, moody sky…….beautiful.

On way to Bristol, England.......

We are rolling right now through the rolling hills of Scotland on the M74…….stunning scenery. Scotland has a truly unique landscape that always inspires…….especially when mixed with snow and fog.

Trusty Dave behind the wheel........

The snow gets deeper………..
Snowy Scotland........

On my mind today…….my boy. I hate leaving. The road is how my life has panned out at the moment, and so it goes. Most of my time seems to be spent staring out the windscreen of a vehicle……and when I’m doing that……..I’m thinking……dreaming……planning.
There are alot of things that haven’t panned out in my life, but he is the one thing that I think I did right. I just want to be with him. Those are the moments where I’m most happy. Everything else falls away…………….

Today I’ve been listening to Ryan Adam’s “LaCienega just Smiled” over and over……….I can’t seem to get it out of my head…….puts me into a headspace………thinking…………..

I like your comtemplative pose! The way you speak of your boy is very moving. You must think the world of each other. I'm sure you will both be fine and together again before you know it!

So looking forward to seeing you next Friday (Have I mentioned that enough already??)! More snow forecast, so I wish you safe travels!

Just goes to show ya that no matter who you are or where you are, there is always something to think about, marvel at, and appreciate…..if you open your heart & soul to let the information in…..always something to see and learn about; which is what makes a true artist an artist — the gift to see and hear from within…Good luck on your trip and enjoy the wonders of life!! :-)

Yes, I try. I've learned through the years that you have to try to take it all in……….but pace yourself physically………….thanks for the comment. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Read the blog and I feel your pain… It must be hard leaving again.. Being on the road and missing your family and then back at home and feeling guilty your not out there earning a living !!!.. Life sure is a balancing act… For what it's worth I always remember that you told me this is what you do – and you do it very well – That sums it up perfectly .. When my boy was as old as yours my 9-5 job meant that I was out of the house long before he woke up and maybe – if I was lucky – I would get 1/2 to 1 hour with him in the evening.. That's not unusual for working men either !!!!.. So I guess when you are not touring you get to see a side of him during the day that I never got to see…. Swings and Roundabouts I guess..
Of course,as he gets older he may need you a little bit more during those early school days … So I guess you will have a bit more thinking and planning to do during those twilight hours contemplating life from behind the wheel…

Keep the faith buddy…
Neil

I feel for you. I also felt the same way when I live my son because I have to work to another country, But that's life. I'm getting use to it…
