Wayzata, Minnesota-2009 50 States in 50 Days-A surprise stop by The Surf Ballroom!

Sometimes happy accidents happen. I REALLY wanted to take Sean by The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, but I thought it was too far from Burlington, Iowa. Well, we woke up after our show in Burlington, and I set the GPS to take us to Minnesota……..I set it and go.
A couple of hours later……Kaci was driving, Sean editing video in the back, and I was working on logistics online……I happened to look up and see the Clear Lake/Mason City exit on I-35!!!! I freaked and told Kaci to get off at the exit.
Sean is a huge Buddy Holly fan, and that was the connecting that led us to work together. He initially came to one of my shows in Bristol because Tommy Allsup was playing guitar with me. Tommy played guitar with Buddy Holly and is actually the guy that flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens for his seat on the plane.
Anyway, I told them we had 5 minutes to take a tour of the Surf………45 minutes later……..well, Sean was a very happy man.
The song you hear on the video is “Flower of My Heart”-written by my Dad when he was 14 years old. He and Buddy played the song as the duo, Buddy and Bob.

We have to keep the streak going to fulfill the 50 States in 50 Days commitment. Last year some of the BEST house concerts were booked the day before, so i’m fired up to see what transpires over the next few days. The 50 States in 50 Days tour will see us driving about 22,000 miles in my truck, and flying a few thousand as well. I estimated the fuel costs today, and it came out to $2494.70 for the entire tour!
