Highlights from Songs in the Sun….2010 dates
Two weeks ago I was in Stavros, Crete (near Chania) for the 4th Annual Songs in the Sun-Crete week. It was a blast! We’ve already set the dates for next year……June 15th-22nd.
This coming year I will be doing songwriting sessions during the day with the participants, and I know have a whole year to find a “guitar” expert for the daily guitar seminars. In past years, we had Tommy Allsup of Buddy Holly/Bob Wills fame.
The idea for the week in Crete came from a chance meeting with Reg Fairfoot of Akrotiri Villas. He came to see Emmylou Harris play at the Hopetoun House Festival in Edinburgh in 2000, and we met after my show. He gave me his card and said that if I ever wanted to do a house concert in Crete to let him know.
Being the adventurist that I am. Well, I showed up in Crete a few months later, and did two house concerts around the villa’s pool bar. I’ve know been about 12 times! We came up with the idea to have our friends and fans come to Crete for a week of music and fun. So, that is what we did by creating the Songs in the Sun-Crete.

From America-fly to London, and get a charter flight straight to Chania, Crete (it is a part of Greece)…….and then you are in paradise. I got my charter flight ticket for 105 pounds this year…….about $170……..cheap.
