Many of you were so kind to say prayers and send good thoughts for me and my son over the past few days. Basically, my son became very ill on Saturday afternoon/early evening. As i noticed his symptoms……..fever, stomach ache, headache, loss of appetite..i began to get more concerned……then when he mentioned his neck hurting……i went into emergency mode.
I immediately went to the laptop and googled “Spinal Menengitis Symptoms”, and saw that he had all the symptoms……except throwing up. I was concerned enough that i started taking steps to pack things, and get him ready for what i suspected would be a few days in the hospital…….i then started to put him in the car…..and he threw up on my back. Panic mode.
We arrived at the A&E, and i was even more concerned when they immediately started calling in doctors from all over……one surgeon came in wearing a dinner jacket……and that concerned me even more.
In a quiet moment, i used my facebook application on my blackberry to put a “Status Update” onto facebook……..to quickly let my family know what was going on, and to ask for prayer for my son.
It was a very scary moment.
Four days and nights later……..restless, sleepless nights later we were discharged from the hospital. It turned out not to be spinal menengitis, thank God, and he is responding to medication. As i write this he is napping beside me on the couch. He will be fine.
I wanted to blog about this on my site here to give some of you piece of mind about what is going on with him. Many of you……..close friends, and friends that i’ve met through my career as a traveling singer-songwriter…….were very concerned and responded in an amazing way with prayer, comments to my facebook page, emails, and good thoughts sent our way. It was amazingly uplifting to know that so many people were praying for us.
When you are lying beside your sick child in the hospital……and your blackberry buzzes, and you check your email or facebook page, and a long lost friend has said, “i’m praying for your son”………that is powerful, and i felt everyone’s love, and kindness.
So, i just wanted to thank everyone who has commented, texted, or emailed me in regards to my son’s welfare. I want to talk to you each individually, but that will take days and weeks.
Thank you again,
Kevin

Thank God that Beau is doing well. I know exactly what you mean about the power of prayer, Kevin. I’m happy to hear that so many of your fans and friends reached out to you during this difficult time. You and your family are truly blessed.

I’m so glad that your son is doing better. We had a similar scare recently with one of our sons. He had an eye infection that they thought could affect his vision and even spread to his brain! They had us rush him over to the hospital. Fortunately, our prayers were answered and none of those possibilities occurred. He is doing great now. You did the right thing, though, in getting help for your son early. He has God to thank — and your quick thinking — for his health!

Its been a while since I have been on but then read about your son! I am so glad he is doing much better! Kids are a joy but can also scare the heck out of you! I know, I have 4 and now have 6 grandbabies. Tell your son to continue to get better! Hang in there Dad!

I just read this now and although it’s been a bit of time, I’m so glad your son is doing well and he’s back home where he belongs. I know the feeling well, and it’s terrifying. My son became very ill the day after Thanksgiving 2007. By December 5th we were at the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City and on December 12th he had open heart surgery. There were major concerns on Jackson’s part that we would still be in the hospital for Christmas and Santa would have no clue how to find him. I knew the best present I could ever hope to get was him, alive and well. Ten-year-olds think differently though, and we were lucky enough to go home on December 21st. He is completely recovered and having an amazing baseball season playing second base.
